How this calculator works
Word count is the invisible constraint behind almost all writing: essays need minimums, blog posts need depth, resumes need brevity, and speeches need timing. This word counter updates every count the instant you type - words, characters, sentences and paragraphs - plus two time estimates writers actually use: reading time (at the standard 200 words per minute) and speaking time (about 150 words per minute, the pace of natural speech).
The keyword density table is the SEO angle: it strips common stopwords and shows your top five repeated terms with their share of meaningful words. A healthy informational article usually lands its focus keyword around 1–2%; much higher reads as stuffed to both readers and search engines. Bloggers use it as a quick self-edit before publishing - if a synonym you intended never appears, your draft may not be saying what you think it is.
Students checking essay minimums should note the counter splits on whitespace, so hyphenated compounds count as one word and numbers count as words - matching how most word processors behave. Like every tool on this site, it runs 100% in your browser: unpublished drafts, client work and personal writing never leave your device.
