How this calculator works

Reading a 24-character WiFi password off the back of a router is nobody idea of hospitality. A WiFi QR code packs your network name, password, and security type into one scannable square: a guest points their phone camera at it and joins instantly, no typing, no misread characters, no "is that a zero or an O". Cafes print them on tables, Airbnb hosts frame them by the door, offices stick them in meeting rooms, and parents of teenagers hand them out instead of dictating passwords over the phone.

The generator builds the standard WIFI: payload every phone understands - network name (SSID), password, and security type (WPA/WPA2 for nearly all modern routers, WEP for old ones, or open for password-free networks). Tick "hidden network" if your router does not broadcast its name and the code carries that flag too. The Print guest sign button produces a clean, large-format sign with your network name and a high-resolution code, ready to hang.

A note on safety: anyone who scans the code gets your password in plain text on their device, so treat a printed WiFi QR like a spare key. For guests, the smarter move on many routers is a separate guest network - share that one via QR and keep your main network private. As with every tool here, the code is generated entirely in your browser; your WiFi password is never uploaded or stored anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do guests connect with a WiFi QR code?
They open their phone camera and point it at the code. iPhone and Android both recognize WiFi QR codes natively and show a "Join network" prompt - no app needed.
Which security type should I select?
WPA / WPA2 covers virtually all home routers from the last 15 years. Choose WEP only for very old equipment, or "Open network" if your WiFi genuinely has no password.
Does it work with hidden networks?
Yes - tick "Hidden network" and the code includes the flag phones need to join a non-broadcast SSID.
Is sharing WiFi via QR code safe?
Convenient, but anyone who scans it learns your password. For visitors, prefer sharing a router guest network rather than your main one - most routers offer this in a few clicks.
Can I print the QR code for my cafe or Airbnb?
Yes - use the "Print guest sign" button for a ready-to-hang sign, or download the PNG/SVG to add it to your own menus, tent cards, or welcome book.
Is my WiFi password uploaded to a server?
No. The QR code is generated locally in your browser; your network name and password never leave your device.
