How this calculator works

An online stopwatch is the simplest timing tool there is: press start and it counts up with centisecond precision. The lap button records both the split (this lap) and the running total, which makes it useful far beyond running tracks: speakers timing rehearsal sections, teachers running classroom activities, developers benchmarking tasks, cooks juggling dishes. The fastest and slowest laps are highlighted automatically, so a glance tells you where the pace changed.

The countdown tab flips the job around: set hours, minutes and seconds, or hit one of the quick presets from 1 minute to 1 hour, and watch the progress bar drain toward zero. When time runs out the page plays an alarm and flashes a green "time is up" state. It is the tool for HIIT and Tabata workout rounds, exam practice under real time pressure, presentation rehearsals, and every kitchen task that punishes guessing.

The third tab is a Pomodoro timer for the focus technique of the same name: 25 minutes of deep work, a 5-minute break, and a longer 15-minute break after every four sessions. The cycle dots track your progress and the timer advances phases automatically with a chime, so you never have to watch the clock. Every length is adjustable if 25/5 is not your rhythm. One honest caveat: browsers slow down background tabs to save battery, so keep this page visible for exact timing. Like every tool here, everything runs locally in your browser with no account and nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is an online stopwatch?
It reads your device system clock, so it is accurate to well under a second over typical sessions - plenty for training, cooking, speaking practice and classroom use. It is not certified timing equipment, so do not use it for official race results.
How do lap times work?
Press Lap while the stopwatch runs. Each lap records the split time for that lap plus the total elapsed time, and the list highlights your fastest and slowest laps automatically.
How do I set the countdown timer?
Type hours, minutes and seconds and press Set timer, or tap one of the quick presets (1 minute to 1 hour). The progress bar shows the share of time remaining, and an alarm plays when it reaches zero.
What is the Pomodoro technique?
A time-management method from the late 1980s: work in focused 25-minute blocks, rest 5 minutes between them, and take a 15 to 30 minute break after every four blocks. The timer here runs that cycle automatically and lets you adjust every length.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Browsers throttle background tabs to save battery, which can make timing drift. For exact results, keep this page visible. The end-of-timer alarm plays as long as the tab is open.
Do I need an account or an app?
No. The stopwatch, countdown and Pomodoro timer all run in your browser with JavaScript - no signup, no download, and nothing you time is sent to a server.
