How this calculator works

A pay stub generator turns your pay details into the classic paycheck-stub layout: earnings on one side, deductions on the other, net pay at the bottom. Enter your employer and pay period, then your earnings - hourly rate times hours (plus overtime at 1.5x or your own multiplier), a salary per period, bonuses, commissions - and the stub builds itself line by line. Deductions take the same treatment: federal and state income tax, Social Security at the standard 6.2% and Medicare at 1.45% (both auto-calculated from gross, or enter your own figures), retirement, health insurance, and anything else.

The two columns tell the real story of a paycheck. Gross pay is everything you earned this period; total deductions is everything withheld or contributed; net pay is what actually lands in your account. The generator shows the effective deduction rate too - the share of gross that never reaches you - which is the number that matters when you compare job offers or negotiate raises. Add year-to-date gross and deductions and the stub carries YTD totals, the same columns your employer stub shows every period. The Print stub button produces a clean single-page layout, and Copy summary drops the three key numbers into your clipboard for spreadsheets or loan paperwork.

One honest note: this is a personal-records and estimate tool, not a legal payroll document. Real pay stubs come from your employer payroll system with exact tax tables, and lenders verify income independently - never use a generated stub to misrepresent income, which is fraud. As with every tool here, everything runs locally in your browser: your name, pay figures, and deductions never leave your device.

Here is what a typical stub looks like. At $22 an hour for 40 regular hours plus 5 overtime hours at 1.5x, regular pay is $880 and overtime is $165, for $1,045 gross. FICA takes Social Security at 6.2% ($64.79) and Medicare at 1.45% ($15.15), a combined $79.94, leaving $965.06 before income-tax withholding. On a flat $1,000 paycheck the same math is $62.00 Social Security and $14.50 Medicare, $76.50 total. Enter your own rate, hours and deductions above and the generator builds this same breakdown line by line, ready to print.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a pay stub for my paycheck?
Fill in your employer, pay period, and earnings (hourly rate and hours, or salary per period, plus any overtime, bonus or commission), then your deductions. The stub preview updates instantly - use Print stub for a clean one-page copy.
Does it calculate Social Security and Medicare automatically?
Yes - Social Security at 6.2% and Medicare at 1.45% of gross pay are auto-calculated. Untick the auto option if your situation differs (for example, you already hit the annual Social Security wage base) and enter the figures manually.
How is overtime handled?
Enter overtime hours and the multiplier - 1.5x is the federal standard for non-exempt hourly workers. The generator multiplies your hourly rate by the hours and the multiplier, and shows the overtime line separately.
Can I add year-to-date totals?
Yes - enter your YTD gross pay and YTD deductions from your last stub and the preview carries running YTD columns, matching the layout employer pay stubs use.
Is this a legal pay stub for loans or rentals?
No. This is for personal records and estimates. Lenders and landlords verify income independently (payroll records, tax returns, bank statements). Never use a generated stub to misrepresent income - that is fraud.
Is my pay data uploaded anywhere?
No. The stub is built entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your name, pay figures, and deductions never leave your device.
What is the difference between a pay stub and a paycheck?
The paycheck is the payment itself; the pay stub is the breakdown that explains it. Every stub shows gross pay, each deduction line (income tax, Social Security, Medicare, insurance, retirement) and net pay, plus year-to-date totals. Keep your stubs as income records for rentals, loans and tax filing.
How much Social Security and Medicare is taken out of a $1,000 paycheck?
On $1,000 gross pay, Social Security at 6.2% is $62.00 and Medicare at 1.45% is $14.50, for $76.50 total FICA. Employees pay 7.65% combined and employers match it; self-employed workers pay both halves, 15.3%, as self-employment tax.
Can I make a pay stub if I am self-employed or a freelancer?
Yes, for your own records. Enter your contract income as earnings and your estimated tax payments as deductions. One key difference: a W-2 employee pays 7.65% FICA with the employer matching it, while self-employed workers pay the full 15.3% self-employment tax on net earnings. This tool is for estimates and personal records, not tax filing.
